House Bill No. 548 would amend the state’s Tax Code to provide the surviving spouse of a U.S. military member killed in action an exemption from property taxation, under heavily detailed circumstances. The bill contends that there is no way to make up for these great losses, but some financial assistance to the surviving family can be of great help. The bill was first filed in January of 2011, and has been heard in committee and a public hearing since. It is currently pending in committee.
