Texas Political Lobbyists
Reporter Mike Hailey, writer for Capitol Inside, has reported that Democrats in our state may be rooting for Mit Romney to win the nomination for Republicans. This is exactly the opposite of national Democrats, who are hoping a more extreme candidate will help them gain the moderate vote this Fall. The Texas democrats have a different agenda. They feel that Romney might negatively affect Republican voter turnout in the election, which would be great for them.
Let’s face it. Many voters show up if they are inspired and vote a straight ticket when they do. If Texas Republicans are less than enthusiastic about Romney – and the are decidedly NOT enthusiastic – they might not even show up. This would be great news for Texas Democrats for the Fall state elections.
That Obama doesn’t stand a chance in Texas is even more reason not to show up and vote. Why bother?
Romney’s problem in Texas isn’t just that he’s a moderate. Unlike McCain, he’s from the East. And unlike McCain he doesn’t have a spectacular war record to endear him to conservatives.
