Governor Rick Perry made an announcement on August 27th of 2013 that the Dow Chemical Company will be expanding their manufacturing facilities into Brazoria County, a small Gulf Coast area just south of Houston. They will be building two new plants and in the process creating about 250 new jobs. The Dow Chemical Company had been considering gulf area locations in Louisiana and Texas, before settling in Brazoria County. Texas is providing the company with 1.5 million Texas Enterprise Fund dollars to seal the deal. The Dow Chemical Company manufactures products that aid in electronics, agrosciences, specialty chemicals, and plastics. “We are very pleased to be further investing in Dow Texas Operations and creating new jobs in the manufacturing sector as part of our comprehensive plan to further connect our U.S. operations with cost-advantaged feedstocks available from increasing supplies of shale gas in North America,” said Earl Shipp.
