Texas Political Lobbyist News Update: Gov. Perry Announces $3 Million Grant
On Friday September 13th, Governor Rick Perry announced a $3 million dollar investment to create the “Center for Cell and Organ Biotechnology”. This investment comes from the Texas Emerging Technology Fund. The TETF is $200 million program enacted by the state Legislature in 2005 by the Governor’s request. It has since been consistently renewed. It is composed of 17 qualified members who review potential projects and make informed recommendations to the Lieutenant Governor, Governor, and Speaker of the House. So far, TEFT has given over more than $216 million to 142 early stage companies.
“We are grateful to Governor Rick Perry and the State of Texas for the vision to create the TETF, which is rightfully the envy of many,” said Dr. Eleanor Green, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. “It was clear from the beginning that this partnership between two highly regarded institutions and the State of Texas was special. We know that the health of animals and people is inextricably linked and this unique center will advance both human and animal health.
