Texas Political Lobbyist Update: Governor Perry’s Comments on President Obama’s Recent Executive Action
The following is a digest of a story that originally appeared on Governor Rick Perry’s official website. The Texas Lobby Group is running this summary as a public service for all interested Texans, state lobbyist, political consultants, and other interested parties.
Governor Rick Perry recently released a statement regarding the Newtown massacre, and the Obama Administration’s handling of it. He has consistently spoken out against increased gun control and is a firm believer in personal liberty and responsibility regarding firearms. Those who oppose present motions towards gun restrictions believe that it will be ineffective in preventing more mass shootings. It is suggested by Perry that gun control punishes too many responsible and law abiding citizens, and infringes upon second amendment rights.
“Guns require a finger to pull the trigger. The sad young man who did that in Newtown was clearly haunted by demons and no gun law could have saved the children in Sandy Hook Elementary from his terror.”
There are no easy answers when it comes to mass shootings and gun violence. There are many courses of action to take regarding policy. Perhaps restricting guns to our law abiding citizens is not the best course of action. Perhaps background checks and closing the gun show loopholes are a better course of action. This pattern of mass shootings is not black and white, or accompanied with a simple solution.
