Texas Political Lobbyist Update: Drought Emergency Announcement

On Monday June 17th, Rick Perry issued a proclamation renewing the state drought emergency. Texas has been in a recognized drought almost constantly since the initial drought emergency proclamation of July 5th of 2011. Drastic and consistent low rainfall and record high temperatures have pushed the state towards more of an emphasis on water planning. Water planning has been one of the biggest topics this legislative session. Environmental conditions coupled with heavy population increase have lessened virtually any doubt that it is a necessity. There is only so much water for so many persons than the state can currently supply.
